My Experience

Why I chose wordpress

In the past, when I wanted to create a website, I would manually code it in html and css and I could only do basic things with my website such as having multiple pages, buttons redirecting to other websites and parallax scrolling images.

However, when I heard that roughly 43% of all websites on the internet used wordpress, I thought, why don’t I try it out? So here I am making my first website using wordpress.

How I made my website

When I was first starting out with making my website, I had no idea where to begin. I was lost. Luckily, since so many people use wordpress, there are tons of resources online that helped me. I mostly used youtube and, by searching ‘How to use wordpress’, I managed to find some useful videos and tutorials to help me get started. Here are some basic/simplified steps:

  1. Find/get a hosting service to host your website on their server otherwise your website won’t be on the internet. most people recommend hostinger as it’s relatively cheap and reliable.
  2. Create a wordpress account and connect/sync it to your hosting provider so that your website is on the internet. You can use youtube to help you with this.
  3. Create your website. Use a template from the thousands of free ones on wordpress, or make your own and get creative with it. You can change everything about your website. Again, you can use youtube to help you with this.
  4. Don’t forget to save the changes you made and publish your website. Then go onto google and search up your website to see what it looks like.

Tips for beginners

I am still a beginner at wordpress myself however, some things I found useful where:

  •  Youtube tutorials, they explain almost everything in a very beginner friendly way making it very easy to understand and there are lots of tutorials for whatever you want to do.
  • Templates, there are thousands of free templates on wordpress for lots of different types of sites and I even used one for this website. They speed up the website making and designing process dramatically.
  • Pexels/Pixabay, these are websites where you can get copyright free images/photos for your website and they have thousands of free images for everyone to use. All of the images on this website, I found on those sites.

Conclusion

In conclusion, wordpress is a great platform for both beginners, like myself, or more experienced users to create websites for both professional and personal use. It has lots of great resources online provided by its many users, thousands of free themes for all sorts of websites, and it simplifies the designing/building of websites by utilising a drag and drop method of building the website. This means that you don’t need to be able to code to create a stunning looking website with wordpress.
